3. To develop logical thinking and problem solving skills.

Teaching and Learning Strategies
1. Students will be encountered to develop the learning independence required for successful performance at this and subsequent levels of mathematics.
2. While the principles contained in each section will be taught as pure mathematics, application and integration of these principles will be stresses throughout.
3. The teaching sequence should be adjusted to meet the needs of the students in their respective trade programmes. Mathematics instructors should consult the specialist department to determine an appropriate teaching sequence.
4. The use of calculator is to be incorporated into the teaching and learning process.

Unit Structure
The Unit Guide is for use by students and instructors as a reference guide. It is organized into Skill Areas which consist of:
1. Performance Objectives, which state the skill to be acquired.
2. Enabling Objectives, which are the elements of skill a student must acquire to perform the Performance Objective competently.
3. Performance Standards, which identify the minimum performance a student must demonstrate for a given Performance Objective.

It is recommeneded that a total of 90 hours be allocated for NTC 3 Mathematics. The Competency Profile Chart consists of competencies grouped by Skill Area.
